Camaro/Firebird Suspension Parts Catalog, 82-92
Thank you for your interest
in Ground Control Racing Suspension and the quality suspension
products we sell. The following is a fairly complete list of the suspension available for
the 1982-1992 Camaro, both for the racer and street enthusiast. This list is organized
starting at the front of the car, and moving to the rear. Many of the parts listed require
choices to be made, either because of a rules restriction or to suit a budget. If you have
any questions regarding these choices, please do not hesitate to call.
Front suspension bushings
Front lower control arm bushings, centered urethane, new steel sleeves $39.00
Front MacPherson struts, priced individually
There is a large amount of incorrect information being supplied to consumers lately
regarding shocks and struts. Most of this misinformation is born of ignorance, but with
damper performance becoming more important and more expensive, components should be chosen
carefully. We have track tested many struts and shocks, and have run every one on our
in-house sophisticated shock dyno to further help us understand the effects on handling.
Advance Design Racing Struts,

factory hollow front sway bar to use aircraft quality rod ends and adjusters. $80.00
Front springs and spring kits
Eibach Pro-Kit, set of 4 springs for street use, lowers car one inch,
non-adjustable $224.00
Ground Control Suspension NON-adjustable height front spring kit
Specifically made for racing classes where the spring origin is unlimited, but threaded
adjusters and perches are specifically prohibited, this kit allows a large choice of
spring rates. Ground Control Suspension Adjustable Height Front Spring
Kits Using parts and technology from NASCAR, we have devised a simple and quick
ride height adjustment system for Camaros and Mustangs. A steel weight jack screw is
located inside the front spring, and is easily accessed and adjusted through the lower
control arm with a 1/2 inch ratchet and extension. In addition to the ability to set the
ride height almost wherever you want, you can also adjust corner weights, roll center
height and change spring rates quickly and easily. These kits come with Eibach race
springs (your choice or our recommendation) and pre-assembled weight jack assemblies
that install with no welding or cutting. A/S and S.P. legal. Springs are included,
and may also be purchased separately (see below). $259.00/pair
Weld-in weight jack kit, accessed from under the hood, but requires above
average fabrication skills, including removal of the front crossmember and extensive
welding. Springs are included with this kit, and also sold separately below $259.00/pair
Eibach 5 1/2 O.D. race springs (front)
Additional springs are available from our large inventory for testing or different track
setups. Available are: 650, 700, 750, 800, 850, 900, 950, 1000, 1050,1100, 1200 and up to
4000 lbs./in. $55.00-$59.00 each
Bump Stops
We sell three different types of bump stops for MacPherson Struts. All three are closed
cell urethane foam, and vary in density. We can recommend the most appropriate length and
density for your setup. $8.00 each
Ground Control Suspension Camber/Caster plates
Our
camber/caster plates for the Camaro are machined from billet aluminum and black anodized
for appearance. They allow up to 5 deg. negative camber and up to 6 deg. positive caster.
By replacing the rubber in the front upper strut mount with a large spherical bearing,
unwanted flex is eliminated and the exclusive design provides an additional inch of
travel. This extra travel can allow the tires to buzz the inner sheetmetal, so please see
our section on front bump stops.
Camber/Caster plates , both sides, includes any adapters if needed. $225.00
Upper Stress Bars These A/S and S.P. legal stress bars are absolutely
necessary to prevent excess flex of the front MacPherson strut towers. It is very common
for the sheet-metal to deflect 1/4 or even more, causing unwanted changes in camber.
Our upper stress bars are manufactured from .120 wall Milspec 4130 chrome-moly tubing, and
are of the highest quality possible. Our stress bars are designed not to interfere with
camber plates, and can also be bolted with stock upper mounts. $109.00
Rear Control Arm Bushing kits
Urethane rear control arm bushing sets
These popular kits are promoted heavily in all the magazines, but have some significant
disadvantages, even when compared to the stock 1LE bushings. We sell these bushings in
pairs (for one end of each of your control arms) and recommend them for use with our
spherical bearings described below $25.00 pair
Spherical
bearing rear control arm bushing kits Installed into your existing rear control
arms, these kits replace two or four of the four stock rubber rear control arm bushings
with a steel spherical bearing which has virtually no binding in rotation, yet is
perfectly rigid from front to rear. $195.00 pair
Replacement aluminum rear control arm with rod ends These threaded
aluminum control arms REPLACE your existing lower control arms, however because the arm is
replaced (not just the bushings), these are not legal for SCCA A/S or S.P. classes.
$190.00 pair
Adjustable rear ride height kits
Aluminum threaded adjuster, installed below spring, no welding required $92.00
pair
NASCAR style weight jacks, average fabrication and welding skills required, all parts
supplied including aluminum weight jack screws and reinforcement plates for the chassis $119.00
pair
We can supply you with all parts needed to make a rear coil-over setup. Extensive and
somewhat skillful fabrication is needed. These kits are only legal for SCCA G.T.,
Production and Modified classes. Despite many requests, we have never figured out a good
A/S legal way to do this
Replacement rear springs
Street rear springs see Eibach Pro-Kit, listed under front springs.
Racing rear springs All of our rear springs are made exclusively for us,
but the most popular by far is made by
Suspension Spring Specialists as a 225 lbs./in. rear spring. These springs are designed
shorter than circle track springs, and do not need to be cut $55.00 each
Racing rear springs, 125 lbs./in., 150, 175, 200, 250, 275 ,300 $59.00
each
Rear shock absorbers Priced individually The
sensitivity of the rear suspension of the Camaro extends to the rear shocks. In most cases
the choices and decisions made regarding the rear shocks are more important than on the
front. We have tried, have sold, and currently use a disparate mix of rear shocks. Our
testing in this area is ongoing (like everything else actually), and after 10 years of
racing Chevrolets, we still try different ideas. It is always best to just call for advice
on what parts are best for you.

Penske monotube, adjustable rebound, remote reservoir with adjustable
compression $629.00
Camaro Panhard Rods
Our exclusive Panhard rod for the 82-92 Camaro does more than just replace the factory
Panhard rod. By eliminating 2 rubber bushings, the axle is more consistently located from
side to side. Some movement of the axle is always present when using a Panhard rod, but
through 4 inches of travel we have limited the total lateral movement to 0.060 inches.
Another advantage to our Panhard rod is that we have relocated the rear roll center
approximately 1 1/2 inches lower, which creates a more level roll axis. This is not a
bolt-in kit , stamped steel reinforcements are included and must be welded on. Constructed
of .120 wall, 4130 chrome moly with left and right hand aircraft rod ends. $140.00
Rear Sway Bar adjustable mount kit
All the rod ends and brackets needed to convert your existing rear sway bar. $75.00/kit
Proportioning Valve Virtually every race car eventually gets a brake
proportioning valve, usually on the rear brakes. We include directions for the easiest way
to slide in and adapt this valve to your car. A flaring tool and a new American brake line
are needed. $59.00
Toe plates first saw Richard Pettys team use these years ago. there
is nothing more simple or foolproof. These plates are quality extruded aluminum and are
placed up against each tire. One person uses two measuring tapes, one across the front of
the tires and one across the rear, and measures the difference. Example: front tape is 67
1/4, rear tape is 67 1/8 for 1/8 toe-out. Simple, light, portable,
repeatable, and they calibrate themselves every time. $69.00
Earls Stainless Steel Brake Lines Unlike some others, these brake
lines are factory assembled and individually pressure-tested to standards exceeding
anything you will see on your race car. These are modular brake lines with a preassembled
hose attached to individual end fittings, which can be changed. 0
Set of two front brake lines for 1LE brakes $55.00
Wheel studs long wheel studs, meet or exceed grade 8 , 1/2 inch thread,
not metric $2.50 each

shoulder $1.25 each

Since the rear suspension on the
F-Body (93-98) is virtually identical to the 82-92, prices and parts are the same for
both. |
Future products: Many of the parts we sell are destined to be obsolete as
soon as we find something better, but be assured that what we sell now is CURRENT
state-of-the-art racing technology. Maybe in the future? Lower priced spherical bearings,
more Eibach rear springs, a better way to utilize custom valved front struts are all
things under consideration.
